Raf Simons presented a very relaxed, calming collection for spring 2010. Lightness and ease echoed throughout. No traces of cumbersomeness or convolution , just simple and straighforward. When looked at closely, there are subtle design details that add that much more to the garment, like the piping on some of the collared shirts. Each look was well executed with impecable tailoring, as per usual. It was a tight and focuesd color palatte, domintated by white, reflecting the essence of summertime, and accented with taupe, powder blue and black. With varying cuts, i.e. long trenches, jackets hitting right at the waist, tapered trousers, and short shorts, Simons offered options to the Jil Sander man.
Simons also managed to nicely play with proportions. In one look (look 24), the hem of the blazer met with the hem of the shorts, creating one central line. It is made clear in this collection, that for next spring, men should realize that wearing a t-shirt does ot have to be a lazy attempt to get dressed or beat the heat. You can still look expensive while wearing a simple jersey t-shirt.
