Breath and movement seemed to be motifs in Jun Takahashi’s collection for s/s 2010. The silhouettes were full, roomy and loose, but not of the sloppy kind. At first, you think you know where the collection is going: whites, grays, blazers, shorts…ok cool, nice and basic. Half-way through, que the shiny knit leggings, the army fatigue-esque prints, and the nylon jackets. It seemingly comes out of nowhere, but the styling ties it all together nicely (and note how the color orange plays a subtle, but significant role throughout the collection).

All of a sudden, the collection took a turn from easy and muted to some sort of fashion-driven episode of Survivor. It shows that Takahashi has a very practical approach to design. He prepares his customer for any situation. He makes sure his anoracks are waterproof and if his customers must wear shiny leggings, they will be the most comfortable pair of shiny leggings known to man (take note American Apparel). Takahashi thinks beyond aesthetic; comfort and practicality are important to him, elements that that some designers struggle to marry.
