Asger Juel Larsen is a menswear designer based out of London. What makes his designs interesting is the materials he uses. In addition to some familar textiles, he incorporates materials such as chain mail. The chain mail adds to the strong medieval motif that resonates in his designs. Creating shapes out of such a material is quite impressive. The malleability of the chain mail lends itself to interesting silhouettes that come from it.
I love the fact that Larsen is not settling for just leather and jersey. It shows a new, perspective on garments and how they can be molded, which is always refreshing. There is a toughness and a certain edge that is quite appealing. Though the concept of “armor” has been manifested in the work of many, it has always been interpreted through fabric or perhaps a print. Larsen goes the extra mile and actually uses a material that is directly linked to armor.
