Raf Simons (for Jil Sander) presented such a refreshing collection this season. I usually don’t comment on hair and make-up, but both components aided the overall collection, beautifully. The models were fresh-faced, with their hair in sleek pony-tails. They embodied the freshness of a newborn child. The look was so fitting for the simplicity of the collection. Raf’s pieces were sculptural and molded to perfection. Funnel collars, and tulip-shaped dresses were just a couple of the ways Raf experimented with shapes and construction. There was definitely a theme carried out from his fall 09 men’s collection. Though the color palette was not extensive, it wasn’t too limited. There was a balance of muted colors, slates, and blacks, but with subtle splashes of color. Jil Sander fall 09 elucidated the essence of fashion: technique, skill, and vision. Raf did not resort to incorporating every color in the spectrum, or feel the need to embellish a garment to successfully execute a look. The entire collection focused on shape and texture, which is such a breath of fresh air.
